John Sklenar
President & Founder
CPA, PFS, CFP®
John is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University with a B.S. in Accounting and Business Management. He was awarded the Clifford Kensinger Award which is given to the top accounting student. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has been an active volunteer serving on numerous boards, including two appointments by the Governor of Iowa to the Iowa Accountancy Examining Board, serving as chair of the Ethics Committee. He was also selected as an Outstanding Young Man by the United States Jaycees in 1977.
John entered the financial planning business when he realized the clients of his CPA firm were being poorly served by financial planners. Few clients ever received planning, as most planners simply wanted to sell a product. He saw that many people end up with no plan, the wrong plan, the wrong investments, or lacked necessary documents to accomplish the family’s goals. His passion was fueled by the untimely death of his father, leaving his mother without the means to cope. His firm developed a system to provide complete planning services economically.
John lives in Carroll with his wife, Virlee. Their son Nick works with him, and their daughter, Josie, is a hair stylist in Stillwater, OK. John enjoys spending time with his family and especially their grandkids. John’s true purpose is generosity. His family gives generously out of time, talent and treasure to their church and an orphanage in Malawi. He also enjoys bicycling and scuba diving.
Nick Sklenar
Financial Coach
CFP®
After graduating from Iowa State University, Nick was hired as a Special Agent by the State of Iowa’s Division of Criminal Investigation where he spent time assigned to the Burlington and Osceola offices. In 2012, he decided to join his father in the family business. Nick leads most of the client workshops and events. With the help of the entire TrueWealth team, Nick maintains hundreds of client relationships and services them in all areas of their finances. Seeing families grow together and transform their relationship to money is the most exciting part of the job!
Nick and his wife, Jacky, have 3 children: Jackson, Nolan, and Lena. Jackson is typically busy with football, basketball, baseball, or weightlifting. Nolan has overcome countless health issues and surgeries, and can usually be found on the couch with his iPad. Lena recently found a new favorite activity with the swim team. When not in the pool, she loves to spend time with her kitties and chickens. Unfortunately, her outdoor activities don’t allow her acrylic nails to last very long. Both Nick and Jacky are busy with their children’s many activities. Jacky is the cheerleading coach for the Glidden Ralston Wildcats and Nick helps coach the football team. Go Wildcats!
Wyatt Gauchat
Financial Coach
Wyatt grew up in Nebraska enjoying the outdoors and the perks that come with living a mile from his closest neighbors. He was involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout, and his project was building a picnic shelter for the Village of Brownville Nebraska and dedicating it in memory of his mother, Julliann.
After graduating from Auburn High School, he attended Northwest Missouri State University where he graduated with a double major in Business Management and Marketing. He joined the fraternity brotherhood of Delta Sigma Phi and became part of the leadership team, and now serves as President of his chapter’s Alumni Corporation Board. After two years of working in promotion and sales, Wyatt returned to Northwest and graduated with a degree in Business Finance.
Prior to joining the team, Wyatt worked at TD Ameritrade. He became a licensed stockbroker and eventually a financial advisor. After a year of experience, he was promoted to the new client development team where he was able to specifically assist clients new to the investing world. Wyatt was approached by a fraternity brother, John Sklenar, for an opportunity to learn a new kind of investing, coaching, and leading. Wyatt joined the TrueWealth team in February 2022 and plans to continue to help the clients of TrueWealth well into the future.
